A ring of fortune
i just finished reading the lovely Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree (i truly recommend this read. it is a salve for the tired heart.) and i love that it touched on the concept of “like attracts like”.
Most of us yearn to feel a sense of home, of belonging, and that very yearning can lead us down some difficult or troubled paths. But the reality is, home is community, and you have the ability to create community anywhere you are. Start by going out your front door and becoming a regular at your local coffee shop. Or game shop. Or yarn store. Or car parts shop. Who do you want to meet? They’re there waiting for you.
Step two: Say hi, make small talk even if you’re bad at it. You’ll get better at it. Small talk will lead to meaningful talks.
Remember, time takes time. Roots don’t grow deep overnight — they take care, nurturing, and patience.
Grow your community. You can do it, I promise. Just start by going outside and taking a deep breath.
